In Dodd's Name They Are Prey...

James "The Mountain" Dodd is no stranger to the King of the Mountain State Tournament or the competitors in this year's event. Dodd, who fights out of VO2 Fitness in Newark, OH, made his amateur boxing debut on December 3, 2021 as an undercard fight at KOTMS in Huntington, WV. That was the night James Dodd burst onto the scene in WV boxing. He took on a tough experienced opponent in Eli Kerr and won a unanimous decision. The look on Dodd's face when referee Matt Jones raised his hand was obvious, Dodd was hooked. "The Mountain" would end up being selected to compete in the 2022 KOTMS tournament and accepted the challenge with little to no experience at that time. He looked good racking up two early wins and appeared to be on his way to being crowned 2022 Heavyweight King of WV. He ran into Isaac Iglesias in the semi-final round and it was a close hard fought battle from bell to bell. Iglesias would get what some say a controversial split decision victory by the judges, and that hasn't left Dodd's mind since. On October 7 in Round 1 of the 2023 KOTMS Dodd gets his chance to right a wrong when he faces Iglesias for a rematch in Beckley, WV. He plans on the outcome being much different this time around.

James Dodd has already faced the best fighters in the region including 3 of the 8 competitors in this year's tournament.

With an impressive 4-2 record he's one of the early favorites and most experienced KOTMS fighters in this format.

Delayed Golden Ticket

Due to a scheduling conflict with other bouts it was initially thought that Dodd would be unable to compete in this year's tournament. He would have to serve as the first alternate with Dodd and Chill Boxing hoping things would work out for him to be able to compete. Fortunately for us, and not his competitors, it did. He was entered into the tournament late when Hearl Collins decided to remove himself from the contest and Dodd's schedule had cleared up.

Heavyweight King of the Mountain State

The 2023 KOTMS begins October 7 in Beckley, WV at the Beckley/Raleigh Convention Center. There are 8 invitation only highly ranked fighters competing to be the King of WV.
